6 FUN MOTHER'S DAY CRAFTS TO MAKE HER DAY

It’s Mother’s Day on 12 May, so here are some great ideas for gifts you can help your child make for their mom, granny, or mother-figure!

BATH BOMBS
These are great for moms who need a time out to de-stress.

You will need:
• 1 Cup cream of tartar
• 2 Cups bicarbonate of soda
• 2 Tbsp olive oil
• 1 Tbsp essential oil of your choice
• ½ Tbsp food colouring of your choice
• Water in a spray bottle
• Ice-cube trays or a shallow baking dish

1. Mix all the ingredients except the water in a bowl, until the colour is even.
2. Add three sprays of water to the mixture, then continue mixing.
3. When the mixture holds its shape when you form it into a ball, it is ready.
4. Transfer into the ice trays, or spread out in a thick, even layer in the baking dish and cut into squares.
5. Leave for a few hours until hard.

TIP: Put a few balls in a decorated jar or fabric bag, and write a special message
to mom.

HUG PILLOW

Give her a hug even when you’re not around!

You will need:
• Scrap paper
• Felt
• Pins
• Scissors
• Fabric glue or a needle and thread
• A pillow

1. On the scrap paper, trace both of your hands and cut out the shapes.
2. Pin the cut-out hand shapes onto the felt and cut around the edges so you have two felt hand shapes.
3. To finish off, stick or sew one hand to each side of the pillow. When Mom hugs the pillow she’ll be touching the shapes of your hands.

APPRECIATION NOTES
Remind mommy how much you love her every day!

You will need:
• Paper
• Scissors
• Pens, pencils or crayons
• String or coloured ribbon
• Stickers, pictures or anything you like for decoration

1. Cut paper into seven small, equally sized pieces (about quarter of an A4-size sheet of paper is a good size).
2. Using your pen or any other marker, write a message on each piece of paper thanking Mom for something, one for each day of the week. For example Monday: Thank you, Mom, for everything you do for me. I love you!
3. Decorate each piece of paper however you like, then make a hole in the top corner of each page. Now thread your string or ribbon through the holes and tie them together.

HANDY APRON
Make her smile whenever she makes a meal.

You will need:
• A plain apron (or one with very little detail or patterns)
• Craft paint

1. Put your paint in a container like a shallow dish or empty ice-cream dish.
2. Put the apron on a flat surface.
3. Dip your hands into the paint. Let any extra paint drip off, then press your hands carefully onto the apron to make handprints. Be careful not to smudge – press down slowly and firmly, then lift your hands carefully.
4. Make as many handprints on the apron as you like, then set it aside to dry. Every time Mom puts her apron on she’ll know how much you love her!

PURSE CARD
This card is sure to get you bags of hugs from mom!

You will need:
• 2 sheets of coloured paper
• Glue or a sticker
• Scissors & tape
• Markers, crayons, glitter (anything to decorate the card with)

1. Using your markers, crayons and glitter, decorate one page of coloured paper.
2. Using the second coloured sheet, cut out a 10 X 10cm block for your Mother’s Day message – you can write a beautiful poem or a special message for Mom.
3. Paste your message onto the middle of the plain side of the decorated sheet.
4. Now fold the decorated sheet to make it look like a clutch purse.
5. Seal the purse with a bit of glue or a pretty sticker.

COOKIE JAR
Give mom biscuits or her favourite treats in a pretty glass jar.

You will need:
• A clean glass jar, big enough for the label above
• Scissors
• Glue and glitter
• Ribbon (optional)

1. Cut out the label below and write a special message for mom inside the circle.
2. Stick it onto the jar with glue.

3. Decorate the lid of the jar with glue and glitter, and leave to dry.

4. Add a little bow.
