Essential ingredients for general household cleaners include vinegar, teatree oil (available from most pharmacies), baking soda, lemon juice and olive oil – and spray bottles. Fill a spray bottle with your homemade solution.

HERE ARE 7 HOMEMADE POTIONS YOU CAN TRY:

1. For the toilet, pour 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon tea-tree oil and 1/4 cup vinegar into the bowl and clean with a toilet brush.
2. For bathroom surfaces, mix 1 cup of vinegar and a few drops of lemon juice in a spray bottle.
3. For mildew in your bathroom or kitchen, spray white vinegar on the affected area, leave for 30 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
4. For cutting boards, rub a cut lemon over the surface (added salt helps too), leave for 10 minutes and rinse.
5. For drains, pour 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup vinegar into the drain. Follow with 2 cups of boiling water.
6. For windows, use 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water with a squeeze of lemon juice.
7. For an all-purpose furniture cleaner, mix 1/4 cup vinegar with 3/4 cup olive oil and use a soft cloth to apply. For wooden furniture use 1/4 cup lemon juice mixed with 1/2 cup olive oil.
