This year’s Met Gala theme was Camp: Notes in Fashion. Here’s a look at what we think are the most magical looks of the night!

The Met Gala is an annual benefit event for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The benefit is a fundraiser to encourage New York society to donate and raise money for the Metropolitan Costume Institute and celebrate the grand opening of its latest exhibition. It's considered one of the world’s biggest fashion events and is known for extravagant outfits.

This year’s theme was Camp: Notes in Fashion, inspired by photographer Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, Notes on Camp. This theme is based on humour, exaggeration and theatricality. We, therefore, expected the outfits to be over the top. The guests definitely didn’t disappoint! All the A-listers embraced the theme and pushed the limits of fashion and costume design.

This year Zendaya’s entrance was nothing short of magical, the actress wore a black Tommy Hilfiger gown and as she walked up to the stairs her stylist Law Roach waved a wand and transformed her dress into a glowing version of the blue gown worn by Disney princess, Cinderella. An enchanting moment that will always be remembered!

The legendary Celine Dion pushed boundaries in her 22-pound Oscar de la Renta gown. According to Oscar de la Renta’s Instagram, the gown is constructed from 18 panels, it took 52 master embroiderers and a total of 3 000 hours to hand-bead Celine’s gown. She looks absolutely stunning and completely owns this look.

Ciara took a page out of Diana Ross’s book and brought on the disco-era hair in extreme exaggeration. She wore a sleek cut-out green embellished gown with ostrich feathers paired with matching gloves, belt and a choker. She completely embodies the ‘diva’ look.

Rapper Cardi B always gives us dramatic red carpet fashion, and this year she showed up at the Met Gala in a theatrical burgundy design by Thom Bowne. The dress extends into a full-quilted circular train, and also has a matching headpiece. It is decorated with 30 000 feathers and took 35 people more than 2 000 hours to make. Cardi B pulled off this masterpiece amazingly like she always does.

Actress Gabrielle Union and NBA star husband, Dwayne Wade, were couple goals on the red carpet. Sticking with the theme ‘Camp: Notes on fashion’ they teamed up by wearing matching ensembles from designer Dundas. Gabrielle’s cardigan-like gown was covered in diamonds and embellishments from head-to-toe and Dwayne complemented the look with a black tuxedo and a custom Dundas hooded harness underneath. This was a strong and well-coordinated look.

30 Seconds To Mars frontman, Jared Leto, takes the title of the most jaw-dropping and extreme look of the night. He sported a striking red Gucci, Alessandro Michele costume with jewel detail and brought along a rather unexpected accessory – his head. The head as a handbag look was part of the 2018 Gucci show in February 2018, and Jared Leto incorporated this into the theme of ‘Camp’ by embracing humour, exaggeration and the unconventional.
