5 MINUTES WITH TALITHA NDIMA

With her infectious smile and warm nature, SAFTA award nominee, Talitha Ndima, has an impressive track record on the small screen.

Talitha’s acting career has been filled with memorable performances – from playing rebellious cop, Thandeka Moloi, on the Afrikaans show Erfsondes, to taking on the role of Prudence, an audacious advocate on The Queen.

She is currently helping Mzansi’s couples coordinate their nuptials in the much talked about reality show, Marry Me Now SA, but we managed to steal a few minutes of her time for the Jet Club Family!

PLEASE SHARE WITH US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILY AND HOW YOU STARTED YOUR ACTING CAREER.
I grew up in Port Elizabeth with my mother, father and little brother Zuko. I did most of my schooling in the Eastern Cape, but I was in a boarding school in Cape Town for a few years in high school. After studying Public Relations at the Port Elizabeth Technikon (now Nelson Mandela University), I then started studying for a Bachelor of Arts in drama at AFDA and completed my degree in 2007.

WHAT DRIVES YOU TO KEEP ON CHALLENGING YOURSELF MORE WITH THE ROLES THAT YOU TAKE ON?
The entertainment industry is not an easy one to navigate at all, but there is definitely a feeling of pure joy that one gets from pulling off a character to the point where the viewer completely believes in it. I believe that it’s what all artists aspire to, and it helps to push oneself to keep striving to be better.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE ROLE, OR A CHARACTER?
It's hard to pick a favourite role because they're all really special to me. The role of Phumza on drama series, Igazi, was one I enjoyed tremendously!

AS A PRESENTER OF A REALITY SHOW LIKE ‘MARRY ME NOW SA’ HOW DO YOU KEEP THE BALANCE AND FOCUS ON MAKING EACH EPISODE A SUCCESS?
Marry Me Nowhas been a very emotional journey for me. The ladies who apply to the show are the people I have to worry about and I have to try and get them through their proposal. So instead of thinking about how I'm feeling, I try and focus on the contestants and how to pull off their proposal in the best way possible. South Africans are colourful people and it was an honour to be able to experience so much of that colour live on screen.

ARE THERE ANY NEW EXCITING PROJECTS OR PLANS YOU HAVE LINED UP?
It's hard to line anything up in the industry because it is so unpredictable. But I think I'm ready for some long-term soapie work at this point!

WHO WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR FAVOURITE PERFORMER ON SCREEN LOCALLY?
I'm really bad at picking a favourite anything, but I am enjoying some of the young actors who are coming up now. There's definitely a hunger in some of them that shows and it’s enjoyable to watch!

WHAT IS YOUR DAILY MANTRA THAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED EVERYDAY?
I create my own happiness. It's important for me to not expect anybody to make me happy. Chasing my own happiness wakes me up in the morning.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE DOING FOR FUN OR LEISURE?
I enjoy game nights with friends a lot. I work out three to four times a week to keep my energy levels up and to keep fit and healthy – that’s something I’ve started to enjoy recently.

TELL US SOMETHING THAT YOUR FANS DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I laugh a lot. Anybody who knows me would say that about me. I'm a regular clown really! I will always try to find the humour in situations and I try to not to take life too seriously.

PLEASE SHARE A FEW WORDS OF INSPIRATION…
Take your dreams and goals seriously, because when you do it becomes easier to achieve them. Also, do not compare your hopes and aspirations to other people because this life thing is your own race and you should always set your own pace.
