Say goodbye to the muted tones of winter. Spring is here and it’s time for vibrant shades! This is the easiest way to inject colour into your look. One swipe of your favourite vibrant mascara and you’re sorted! Tip:If you’re going for a vibrant eye, it’s better to keep the rest of your makeup look neutral.
GLOW, BABY, GLOW!
Your highlighter will look extra glowy in the spring sun. “Remember that your foundation and powder have to be on your face already before you apply highlighter,” says celebrity make-up artist, Nomsa Madida. “If you have fair skin, go for a pink undertoned highlighter. If you have dark skin, a bronze highlighter does the trick. If you have medium skin, a peachy highlighter looks better. For extra glow, apply highlighter to nose and forehead too. “I usually apply a little highlighter on the tip of the nose first. Then I build it up to the top of the cheekbones, after which I brush some highlighter down the centre of the forehead, with either a ring finger or middle finger or even both.” Want to learn more about how to choose make-up for your skin tone? RAINBOW EYES
As you’ve probably noticed by now, spring 2019 is ALL about colour! Bye, bye neutral palettes. Hello, rainbow eyes! How to get the look: select your favourite vibrant shades and apply them around your lid in a rainbow pattern. Top the look off with dark mascara; leave the colourful mascara for a more neutral look.

TAKE A BROW
Bold brows are here to stay! South African make-up artist, Colleen van Rensburg, recommends keeping your brows natural, as the overplucked look is a thing of the past. “To create an effortless bold brow, pluck a few stray hairs, not too much as the current look is as natural as possible. However, a little cleaning up of fuzz doesn’t hurt anyone, well except maybe you! Haha!” Not sure how to style your brows? Colleen is a fan of brow gels. “A good way to create a beautiful bold brow, is to first brush your brows out neatly. Then, using an eyebrow pencil or your favourite brow kit, draw a line working up and out towards your temples ending off into a sharp tapered line. Clean up and smooth edges with a beauty bud. For a natural but fresh and groomed look, simply use an eyebrow gel. It will give you that ‘just stepped out of the shower’ look.”

WHITE EYELINER
Spring 2019 sees the revival of the ‘60s trend, winged eyeliner! If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by the thought of rainbow eyes or bright mascara, this is just the trend for you. It’s a statement-maker, yet it’s subtle enough to wear with your bright spring dresses without looking too OTT.
