HOW TO PLAN A BAECATION

Travelling with your significant other can create memories that will last a lifetime, but it requires some planning to ensure those are good memories. Today we give you some tips on how to plan the perfect baecation.

STEP 1: DETERMINE YOUR TRAVEL STYLES
You and your partner might not have the same definition of a holiday. You might want to jam-pack your schedule with sightseeing and museum-hopping, while your partner would rather just chill by the pool or watch movies. It’s important to have this conversation first before you plan your trip and fill up your schedules. Remember, it should be a holiday for both of you!

STEP 2: BE UPFRONT ABOUT YOUR BUDGET
Have an honest conversation with your partner about your finances and how much each of you can contribute to the trip. Make sure that you plan ahead and not just for the trip – remember you still need to be able to eat after your holiday! (You can only eat instant noodles for so long.)

STEP 3: MAKE A LIST OF DESTINATIONS
Again it is important to include your partner in this process. Listen to their ideas and research the destinations together. This is one of the most exciting parts of the planning process, so make it fun by creating a Pinterest board with your destinations. You can also search the destination by hashtag or location on Instagram to see other people’s photos and reviews.

STEP 4: LEAVE ROOM FOR SPONTANEITY
Some of the best travel memories are often unplanned. Make sure that your schedule isn’t so full that you miss out on spontenous detours!

STEP 5: MAKE SURE BOTH OF YOU WILL HAVE “ME TIME”
You don’t have to spend every waking moment together, in fact, spending too much time together might even cause an argument. Take a moment to yourself every now and then and allow your partner to have some personal time too. Tip: pack a good book to read in the bath or by the poolside. Our editor, Koketso Mashika, recommends We're Going to Need More Wine: Stories That Are Funny, Complicated, and True by Gabrielle Union.

STEP 6: TAKE LOTS OF PHOTOS
Don’t miss out on capturing the special moments on your trip. Make sure you pack your camera charger and invest in a good power bank for when you’re out and about. The Google Photos App is excellent for backing up your photos and it also allows you to share your photo albums with other people. If you’d like to print your photos you can use services like Nifty250, which allows you to print your photos directly from Instagram and have them delivered to your door.

HOW TO PACK FOR YOUR HOLIDAY LIKE A PRO

  • You can save bag room and prevent wrinkling by rolling clothing up and stuffing socks and undies into shoes.
  • Liquid containers should be placed in sealed plastic bags to prevent messy spills.
  • Pack a first-aid kit with the basics like plasters, tweezers, scissors, bandage, painkillers, antiseptic and anti-allergy creams and medications for any minor medical mishaps in transit or while you’re on holiday.
  • Select a limited number of versatile shoes and don’t forget hats or caps!
  • To make sure your hats don’t lose shape, put clothing items such as T-shirts inside them to help retain their shape.
  • Invest in small travel-sized bottles for things like shampoo for the journey, and buy larger ones on arrival.
