We’re in the heart of winter, and silly as it may seem, it’s my favourite season! Although some may associate it with gloomy days and frosty nights, I see it as a time to snuggle up indoors and fill my home with decor that oozes comfort.

Guess what? Jet Home has that in bucket loads! Sometimes it’s all about the little things, and first on my list is draping stunning throws on my couches, over my bed and on occasion chairs for some creative flair. Then perk up your little one’s room with some cosy duvet covers, all locally made!

We’re also really loving this winter’s monochrome trend —decor ideas that are all black and white (no grey areas!). We give you some tips and tricks on how to make them the star. So grab a hot drink, flip through these pages, find your inspo and enjoy this chilly season with Jet Home.

3 Ways With Throws
Spruce up your space with these simple yet elegant textiles.

1. BEDROOM BASICS

Throws are an essential element of bed styling, bringing colour, texture and warmth to your space. The trick is to play with clean, tidy lines, but include rumpled, gathered ones for effortless layering (it is a ‘throw’, after all) – combining both together for the perfect balance of showroom-stylish yet homely and chic.

2.COUCH COMFORT
If you have a daybed or a couch with a chaise, style the foot of it with a beautifully draped throw. Fold it lengthwise into quarters, then drop and drape diagonally over the corner. This easy option adds visual interest to what would normally be an empty space.

3. HANGING OUT
Lightweight throws can simply be hung on the rung of a decorative ladder next to your couch or bed. This allows you to show off your throw when not in use, and also means that the cushions on your couch or bed are not disturbed when you grab it.

For The Kids

Make their bedroom ultra-cool with these helpful hints.

1. PATTERNS AND TEXTURE
We tend to think of colour as the main element of interesting decor, but patterns and texture are wonderful decorating tools that can take a room from bland to breath-taking with just a few added elements. By using a power combo of bold graphic prints on duvets with textural layers of throws, plush toys and trinkets, you can create a well-balanced and visually interesting space without relying on colour schemes.

2. WALL ART
An obvious place to display kids’ artwork is in their rooms. Try different techniques for display — perhaps a pegboard, or pegs that attach pictures to twine (an inexpensive solution) or a photo rail. How about creating oila gallery wall above their bed by pairing their artworks with store-bought posters, frames and clocks?

Monochrome Magic
This trend is making a big comeback, so here are some stunning ways to incorporate it into your space paintings, picture frames complemented by large vases and scented candles that will add a sense of harmony to your home.

PLAY WITH TEXTURE AND PATTERN
Incorporate different textures into your furniture or accessories by using tactile fabrics or ceramics. Include rugs with graphic prints, or décor items with interesting shapes (think candleholders and vases). This will help give a three-dimensional feel to your monochromatic decor. Top tip: Group accessories together, such as glossy black metal fixtures, shiny white subway tiles, matte black paint, classy ivory velvet fabric, a white linen bedspread…
