5 SCHOOL HAIRSTYLES TO COMBAT MORNING RUSH

The morning rush is about to become a whole lot easier with these five hairstyles

Your child wants to express themself through their hair. You’re searching for ways to make styling their hair more manageable for you. Is there a way to keep both of you happy? Try these styles and you’ll be smiling all the way to school drop-off!

1. BIG ON BRAIDS
They’re a classic for a reason. It’s easy to play around with different styles while protecting your child’s hair. Box braids have been having a moment – switch it up by trying jumbo box braids, chunky braids, curly ones or opt for a bob. If your child plays sport, this is the style to go for.

2. SIDE SHOW
This style works for both braided and loose hair. Simply prepare the hair, pull it to one side of the head and create a ponytail or bun. Place it higher up so all their hair is out of their face on hot days. Place it lower down for a ‘chic’ look when they have special events at school.

3. QUAD CROWN
Four is more fun to explore! By sectioning the hair into quadrants – two at the top (on either side of the head) and two at the bottom – you make it more manageable, and the look is likely to last through the day. Tie hair up into coiled buns, using whichever twisting method works best. It’s the style to pick if days are extended by things like aftercare, as their hair will be out of their way while they play.

4. TWINS FOR THE WIN
Make it modern by placing two ponytails side-by-side at the back of the head. If hair is long, place multiple colourful hair elastics down the ponytail. For shorter hair, separate the pigtails so there’s one on each side of the head. Keep the roots slick or opt for cornrows, and let the rest of the hair hang loose for a curly or puffy finish.

5. ALL ABOUT ACCESSORIES
Check which hair ties, strings, bows, clips, Alice bands, headbands and beads are allowed at their school – then go wild with accessories in their school uniform colours. Even the simplest hairstyle can be made fun with a pop of personality. All you need to do here is make sure your child’s hair is healthy (see left).

EXTRA TIP
More than four? We say yes! Try Bantu knots for an old-school nod to the 90s.

Care tips for children’s hair:
– Summertime sweat means a build-up of oil and dirt. Wash hair regularly; if it’s braided, refresh with dry shampoo and damp cloth.
– Hydration can work magic. Find products that work best for their hair type.
– Ditch the itch with an anti-itch scalp spray or oil.
– Sleep tight with hair covered in a silk scarf to protect the style.
