Mistake #2: Using a dry beauty blender
The humble beauty blender has infiltrated makeup bags everywhere. But are you really using it correctly? We’ve got bad news for you if you’re not soaking your blender in water before you put it to use. The dry blender will absorb more foundation, whereas when you wet it before use, you avoid product wastage. “A damp blender is key to a natural, even makeup application! Drench your blender in water until it’s full, wring out the excess, and give it a final squeeze with a towel,” explains makeup artist Jen Tioseco.


Mistake #3: Neglecting your lips
Whether you like a bold lip or prefer an understated neutral look, your pout will always take centre stage. Our lips are quick to go dry and flaky, and that’s why it’s so important to include lip exfoliation as a skincare-routine step before applying makeup. “Exfoliating the lips reveals fresh, smooth skin beneath,” says Rodney. “An added benefit is that lipstick can be applied evenly, and the lips immediately look plumper,” explains dermatologist Ife J. Rodney.
