CREATE THESE CRAFTY POT PLANTS FOR MOTHER'S DAY

Want to give your mom the perfect Mother's Day gift? Have fun creating this cute plant pot for her favourite succulent, herb or flowers.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

A used/empty standard-size tin can
20-30 coloured wooden craft sticks
A ruler or measuring tape
A pair of strong/kitchen scissors
A hammer and nail
Strong glue
Ribbon of your choice
Potting soil
A small plant or succulent

SAFETY FIRST
This activity uses sharp objects and requires adult supervision. Always keep your work space neat to prevent accidents.

NIFTY TIP
If you don’t want to use glue, you can put a rubber band around the can and slide the sticks between the band and can to keep them in place. The ribbon and bow will hide the rubber band.

HOW TO MAKE IT
STEP 1: Peel off the label of your can, wash and dry it. Be careful of any sharp edges. (You can seal the open edge with insulation or masking tape.)

STEP 2: Make a few holes in the bottom of the can (for water drainage) by using a hammer to tap the sharp end of the nail into the metal.

STEP 3: Using your ruler or measuring tape, measure the height of the can. Cut your sticks to size, if necessary, using the scissors. Leave an extra centimetre so that the sticks hide the can at the top. 

STEP 4: Glue the sticks around the outside of the can, with the rounded tip of the stick at the top. Press down and hold until it is set properly.

STEP 5: Fill your can with potting soil up to 3cm from the top. Use your fi ngers to create a well in the soil and place the plant or succulent into it. Fill in the rest of the pot with soil.

STEP 6: Tie a ribbon around your plant pot and make a bow.
