5 TIPS TO MAKE YOUR CV STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD

Secure that job offer by following resume guide tips.

Finding a job and securing your next interview can be daunting and stressful, but here are a few tips and tricks that can make you stand out when job hunting.

HIGHLIGHT YOUR CAREER SUMMARY
Having a career objective in your CV is good for fresh-out-of-varsity students, but when you are within your career it's not necessary to put in your career objective, you can add a career summary instead in this way you will summarise your career in three sentences.

MATCH YOUR CV TO THE JOB DESCRIPTION
Always make sure that your resume corresponds with the job description, a resume that matches the job description stands out. Get straight to the point and align your skills with the job description that you are applying for, highlight your current skill set and how they are transferable and relevant to the role that you are targeting. Highlighting your skill sets and accomplishments can make your CV more interesting and possibly land you an interview opportunity. A handy piece of advice? Please don’t list your responsibilities, rather focus on your achievements.

FOCUS ON YOUR PAST ACHIEVEMENTS
List achievements that are relevant for the position advertised, outline your technical and soft skills. Check your grammar before submitting your CV because that will determine a call to your interview.

Always ensure your work experience is in reverse chronological order, your latest job that you are currently in is on top and the first job you had is at the bottom.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE IN A SUMMARY STATEMENT
A summary statement is a great way of pulling a CV together. Try to pay less attention to self-description, instead highlight how you can help the organisation. If you were a sales accountant for instance, elaborate on how you managed sales, for how long and how many sales you made. Say I ‘implemented’ those changes and I ‘initiated’ a great sale, instead of using the word ‘responsible’ when speaking about work experience.

@kha_rishume a modern CV that is neat and well written increases your chances of your CV being viewed by the recruiters, and if you are what they looking for - you will get called for an interview.🔌 thats why it is important to tweak and alter as per job description. hope this helps. #southafricatiktok🇿🇦 #youthunemployment #careertiktok ♬ original sound - Small Biz Coach

KEEP IT SHORT AND POWERFUL
Nobody likes an overly long CV. The layout of your CV is as important as its content. Keep it to one page – or two if it’s difficult to fit in all your work experience. Ensure the information easy to read by keeping the formatting the same so that it’s easy to for the hiring manager to put your CV in the ‘yes’ pile.
