Keep your kids cosy and entertained at home this weekend with these 3 fun, budget-friendly activities they’ll love. Winter boredom will not stand a chance!

Cook and bake the chill away

Little hands around the kitchen may sound like a bad (and messy) idea, but it’s a great way to bond with your kids. Check what you have in your pantry and look for child-friendly recipes that your kids can help bake and cook (with proper safety measures, of course). Not only will your little foodies learn about cooking ingredients and measuring, but the outcome will be delicious! And be sure to make cleaning up part of the day’s fun – an added perk for any parent.

@rhicreative Lucy and I snuck in some school holiday biscuit decorating today - the brief was something ‘Spring’ 🌸☀️🐝 themed. We went with these easy flower biscuits 🧡🩷🩵💚 Ingredients: Marie Biscuits Smarties (for the petals) Mentos (for the flower centers) Life Saver Peelies (for the flower stems) Icing sugar + Milk (for the icing) #biscuitdecorating #kidsbiscuitdecorating #schoolholidayactivity #rhicreative #kidsnobake ♬ Flowers - Miley Cyrus

Break out the board games

When was the last time you had a games day? Dust off those board games for a day of fun and games. Not only will you spend quality time with your little ones, but board games can also teach your kids to think logically and help with social engagement. Don’t fret if you don’t have age-appropriate games around the house, you can take a DIY approach and make your own games and puzzles with items lying around the house.

Have a book review party

Get some blankies, pillows and create a dedicated cosy nook just for reading (and some snacks, of course). Then, have your little ones choose a book they enjoy, and read it in their cosy nook. At the end of the weekend, let your kids tell you all about the books that they read, and you can tell them about your books as well. Include questions like ‘What did you enjoy most about the book?” and “Which new words did you learn?” to get them started. Hosting a book review party is the perfect way to get cultivate reading at home. c
