Akeelah and the Bee is an inspiring movie about Akeelah (played by Keke Palmer), a young girl with a difficult family life who enters a spelling bee competition to avoid detention at school. She wins and with English professor and her coach, Dr Larabee (portrayed by Laurence Fishbourne), proceeds to go all the way to the national spelling-bee competition. This feel-good movie takes us on Akeelah’s journey of rising above despite her difficulties.
