Update your home this 2018 with the latest decor trends.

COLOURS OF THE YEAR
Natural tones are dominating interiors in 2018, creating welcoming spaces for families who enjoy relaxed socialising. Popular colours range from dusky mauve-pink to complementary shades of grey, blue and green. You don’t need to repaint your whole home – simply add a pop of colour by updating accessories such as vases, tablecloths, throws or cushion covers. Or go for a glossy new coat of paint on the front door to welcome family and friends.
INDOOR GREENERY
The trend of greening indoor spaces continues this year, but it does not necessarily have to mean expensive plants or costly maintenance. If you can’t afford real plants or your indoor lighting isn’t ideal, opt for a fake one. Interior decorator and decor stylist Juliette Arrighi de Casanova says, ‘Plants are a lovely way to add freshness, pattern and shape to a room. Faux plants require zero maintenance and all you need is an inexpensive container or basket. And your choices are endless, from tall faux fig trees to liven up an empty corner to small, quirky succulents that can adorn a tray on a coffee table or window sill.’

BOLD PRINTS
One of the biggest home decor trends for the year is bold, oversized plant and animal prints – the bigger your wall space, the bolder you can go. A cost-effective way to introduce this trend to your home is with scatter cushions or a rug. If you have a bit more budget, a feature wall covered in wallpaper will make an impact. Inexpensive art – such as framed prints or even squares of wallpaper – in similar tones can make a lovely gallery wall. Glassware, crockery and mugs with a bold print also make an attractive addition to kitchens and dining tables.

RICH EMBELLISHMENT
When it comes to the final touches, more is more! From embroidery to tassels and fringing, embellishment adds depth to fabrics and furniture. Johannesburg-based interior designer Mpho Vackier loves the 1950s glamour-inspired fringe detail on soft furnishings. Try to find scatter cushions, blankets or curtains with this detail.
