Spotlight on: Crew for a Cause
This organisation aims to uplift the education system one learner at a time by pooling together monthly donations to create bursaries for promising high school learners in SA. “We created Crew for a Cause in 2017 with the idea that small contributions from many of us could make a big difference in a gifted scholar’s education.

We found 15 friends in our community who were able to contribute a small amount each month and began supporting one scholar,” says founder Matthew Koning. “Once we started, we saw massive traction in terms of the community that we were building.

We realised more people were keen to get involved and we could build a larger collection of South Africans who were interested in supporting education. And more members meant we were able to support more scholars.”

Spotlight on: Down Syndrome South Africa
After helping to improve the quality of life of all persons with Down Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities for over 30 years, DSSA National Executive Director Ancella Ramjas and her team show no sign of slowing down.

“DSSA promotes the idea that persons with Down Syndrome have the right to live with independence, dignity and security as valued adults and full citizens in our society,” she explains. “We advocate at national, regional and international levels on the rights of persons with Down Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities, and encourage the development of support groups, programmes and services that could support them.”
