Do you have a fussy eater at home? Getting your children to eat more veggies can call for some stealthy moves in the kitchen! Avoid the fuss and get your little ones to eat right with these tips.

Bringing your partner to family gatherings so that everyone can get to know each other can be as exciting as it is nerve-racking. You want your family to love your partner as much as you do and for everything to go smoothly. To help make the introduction a success, here are six tips to keep in mind.
THE SECRET IS IN THE SAUCE

If your kids already like tomato sauce (as in pasta sauce, not ketchup), you’re in luck, because this versatile sauce can smuggle a lot of extra vegetables into young tummies, without anyone being the wiser. Add bell peppers, grated carrot, zucchini, mushrooms and/or butternut, and be sure to blend the sauce before serving (add some tomato paste if you think the veggies need extra cover).

This same principal applies to minced meat sauce, to which you can add a hefty serving of indistinguishable ground vegetable.

MACARONI AND CHEESE (AND VEG)

A surefire favourite with little ones, the cheesy sauce is guaranteed to make veggies more palatable to picky eaters. You could add peas or corn to the dish, and even include extra veggie goodness in the sauce: steam cauliflower, sweet potato and/or butternut until soft, then add to the cheese sauce and blitz in the blender.

SMOOTHIE MOVES
The best thing about smoothies is that, for kids, they seem very similar to milkshakes, so you can add all manner of fruit and veg they’ll never know about.

Berries and bananas are good options, but you can also add baby spinach, carrot, apple, zucchini, avocado, raw cacao… Experiment! Don’t forget the yoghurt and a little honey.

TIP: Use your child’s favourite smoothie recipes to make healthy ice lollies. Just add the mixture to a lolly mould, freeze and serve.

VEGGIE CHIPS

Why not swap regular potato chips for homemade sweet potato chips? You could also try this viral cheesy veg chip trend: steam some broccoli chunks, smash flat with a glass on a baking tray, then top with sliced ham and grated cheddar, and bake until golden and crispy. Add a vegetable-rich dip and you’re winning the veggie war.

You could also shape vegetable fritters (grated veg + seasoning + egg) into fingers and bake – another food that’s fun for dipping!

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF

In between your partner and your family is you: the glue. Because both relationships are valuable, it can cause emotional turmoil for you if one side criticises the other. Don’t be afraid to call out either side if a boundary has been crossed. And you’ll want to avoid choosing sides – harmony is essential for both relationships to work. In the end, your well-being matters the most.
