Save money every day with these simple saving hacks!

With the cost of living constantly on the rise, it’s important to save where we can. However, the temptation to splurge can often derail us. With these few easy ways to save money every day you’ll be reaching your financial goals in no time!

1

Make it at home instead

We’re all familiar with throwing around “We have that at home!” when we’re children. As we get older, we realise the value of this sentiment. Instead of buying lunch every day or splurging, sometimes over R200, on coffee every week, make it at home instead! Meal prepping can be a great way to make sure your midday slump in the office doesn’t lead to unnecessary spending. Try baking a batch of your favourite homemade muffins to last you the week and get your coffee ‘to go’ from home.

2

Cancel streaming subscriptions that aren’t worth it

There are only so many pieces of content you can watch or listen to at a time. Paying a hefty fee for a monthly subscription to a streaming service that barely updates its content isn’t worth it! That’s not to say you shouldn’t enjoy your streaming platforms but having every single one can become an unnecessary expense when you’re only ever watching reruns of the same shows.

3

Rewards programs are your friend

There are so many rewards programs out there! Try signing up for the rewards program of your favourite stores or eateries. Many rewards programs will offer discounts on day-to-day items or even cashback. This can help during those dry months where you need some extra help. If you don’t know where to start, a Jet Club account is a great way to get major rewards on all things from groceries to travel deals.

4

Wish lists over wasting

Before you splurge on that pair of shoes that’s come up on your timeline, add it to your wish list first. It’s the perfect buffer between you and giving in to impulse buying, allowing you time to think about the product you want and how often you’ll make use of it. We suggest waiting a few days, researching cheaper options and looking at reviews before spending your hard-earned cash. If you still want it, make it your reward for reaching a long-awaited short-term goal. This can range from being consistent with your workout routine for a month to hitting that work deadline before you expected!

5

Budget plans are king

Setting up a budget plan can be great for making every cent count. Make a list of all your expenses, keeping a little extra aside for emergencies. It’s important to note every possible expense and potential spends you see popping up on your calendar. These additional spends can be used for vacations, extra school supplies or an increase in petrol. Over-budgeting is better than scraping together extra funds unexpectedly.
