Your packing-guide if you’re a last-minute packer

Pack light
Knowing how to pack light is a win no matter the duration of your trip. Get this down by planning your outfits ahead of time. Pack in two to three different types of tops for every pair of trousers or skirt in your suitcase. Tees, shirts, and/or flowy tops to create different looks, for instance.
All-day-long shoes
These are your it shoes. They are useful for walking on nature trails, but also in airports or on the road. Other than being functional, they need to be comfortable to wear them for hours on end. Have a fancy dinner lined up? Pack in a pair of lightweight sandals or a smart shoe.

No Harm in Electronics
For short trips, you can ditch the bulk (and your work computer). But for long drives and any flights, add a few essential electronics like headphones, a Kindle or a gaming console. It might make the journey more bearable (especially for the kids)!
Same for Toys/Entertainment
Naturally, kids want to take all their toys and gadgets. Think lightweight and pack in the easily stored toys like inflatable balls, a soft toy, and a card game. Larger items, like puzzles, can be broken up and stored in resealable bags. Colouring books or play dough are also great ways to keep the kids amused while they’re indoors.

Snacks for the road
Nothing ruins a long car ride or plane trip like a hangry person. Plus, packing your own food limits the number of times you must stop, and you can get to your destination quicker. Snack- or cereal bars are always great options and ease the messiness – a win! Banana chips, pears and apples are easy fruits to pack in, and are less hassle. Muffins, yoghurt tubs, sandwiches, and mini packaged cheeses are always a treat for the whole family.

Important documents
Duh. DO NOT leave behind your Identity Document, Driver’s License, car insurance and owner’s manual. If you’re travelling with kids, it might be worthwhile to pack in their clinic cards too.

Buy It Later
Remembering to pack in everything can sometimes cause you to pack in everything. Take comfort in knowing that if you do forget something, it can probably be bought on the way to your destination. It might not be ideal, but it saves you a hairpulling session! Plus, it can be a great opportunity to buy something new to add as memorabilia of your family trip.
