Lights, camera, contour! When it comes to make-up, haircare and skincare – these celebs mean business. Here are three celebs who built their own beauty empires.

1. Amanda du Pont, lelive

Mzansi beauty Amanda du Pont is more than just a talented actress and model. After launching her skincare brand lelive in 2021, and taking it international in 2024, she can now add successful businesswoman to her list of impressive accolades. The name ‘lelive’ is derived from her Swazi name Langalelive, which means “light of the world”. The products are created using African botanicals and methodologies.

“After years of struggling with acne-prone skin, countless products, dermatologist visits and spending so much money, I decided to co-create, with my community, a skincare range that heroes African ingredients and is dedicated to serving diverse skin types,” she says about the brand.

2. Tracee Ellis Ross: PATTERN

Actress, producer, entrepreneur and modern-day style icon Tracee Ellis Ross started her haircare brand, Pattern, in 2019 at the age of 46. It’s been a long road to the launch as she already had the idea when she was still shooting the now iconic sitcom, Girlfriends.

PATTERN was created to bring curly, coily, and tight hair textures to life, to empower others to gain a loving relationship with their hair and to celebrate it for what it is: magic. I couldn’t be prouder of my hair journey and where it has taken me,” she says about creating PATTERN.

3. Rihanna: Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin

Rihanna first captured our hearts as a global pop icon, but these days she’s just as celebrated for her game-changing beauty empire, Fenty Beauty. Bold claim? Maybebut with sell-out launches and cult-favourite products, it’s clear she’s more than earned her mogul status.

Named after her real name, Robyn Fenty, Fenty Beauty launched in 2017 and instantly disrupted the industry with its inclusive shade range and fearless approach to beauty. After a very successful run in the makeup industry, Riri expanded her empire to a skincare line called Fenty Skin. We can’t wait to see what else this mogul has in store for us.
