5 minutes with Hlomla Dandala 

A familiar face on our TV screens, Hlomla Dandala has been a family favourite on South African soapies and drama series for two decades. Currently playing the role of the police commissioner on Mzansi Magic’s The River, he still possesses the strong and superb acting skills he did many years ago on SABC’s Isidingo.

For our Jet Club Family, Hlomla spares 5 minutes of his busy schedule to answer a few questions we have.

What has kept you in the industry for so long?
The dream to make a real difference for those who will join the industry after I leave.

What drives you to stay and keep at it?
An unquenchable love for storytelling.

As a seasoned actor, what is the most important thing you’ve learnt from being in front of the camera?
Always be honest in how you portray a character and how you live your life.

What do you love most about your career?
I love that no two days are the same. Each one is a gift.

What is your favourite movie?
I love most concept movies, sci-fi stuff and local African movies. I like films that catch me unaware such as Get Out, which was directed and produced by Jordan Peele.

Who is your favourite actor or actress and why?
I love the old guys like Ken Gampu, Dr John Kani, Ramolao Makhene, Nonhle Nkonyeni and actors from that generation. I marvel at their tenacity in a time where their jobs were extremely difficult.

What is your favourite thing to do for leisure?
I love to eat out especially with family. And I love movies!

What is your favourite place to visit for holidays or vacations?
Most destinations in Africa.

Are you working on any new projects?
Yes, but I can’t talk about it yet.

What are your plans and hopes for 2019?
I pray for the fruition of those things I’ve been working on for a while.
