As a young content creator from the Cape Flats, Intezaar Kippie has quickly made a name for himself with his captivating content, passion for fashion and creativity.
With over 5ooK followers on TikTok and his signature “Hoya mense!” greeting, he’s fast becoming one to watch.
Q: Your typical day?
A: I wake up early, around 5am, to fit in a gym session. I head home, make breakfast and plan out my schedule for the day; I might have events or brand shoots to attend. If not, I’ll brainstorm content ideas, plan my week and get creative.
Q: What inspires your posts?
A: Observing everyday life — what’s happening in my area, in Cape Town and beyond. I’m inspired by the world around me, whether it’s a current event or something quirky. I’m also really passionate about fashion content now and I’m excited to see where it takes me.
Q: What’s the story behind your greeting, “Hoya mense”?
A: I wanted something that would stick, something that would set me apart. I used to make motivational videos, where I’d try to get people pumped up to make the most of their day. I’d dance to songs that got me hyped, and one of those started with ‘hoya’. I added ‘mense’, so it translates to ‘hello people’, and it just clicked. Now it’s my brand identity — when people hear it, they know it’s me, Intezaar Kippie.
Q: When did you decide to start creating content?
A: During the Covid pandemic, when I was in Grade 10. I was fascinated by what worked for other creators and how they went viral on TikTok. Despite not having the best resources —no WiFi, no data, no iPhone — I didn’t let that hold me back. My mom got me a Tecno Spark phone – not the most glamorous device — but it was all I needed to get started. One of my videos, where I played a teacher, took off and helped me reach 100K followers. From there, brands started taking notice and I began collaborating. Eventually, I saved up and got my own iPhone.
Q: What’s it been like working with fashion brands?
A: It’s been a wild ride! I always dreamt of collaborating with big stores like Jet and The FIX. When branches started reaching out to me, I was thrilled! I’ve faced some criticism for my style, but it’s all part of the journey. I’ve won Best Dressed at the Jet store launch in Canal Walk. It’s been an incredible experience and I’m grateful for the opportunities.
Q: Your goals for 2026?
A: I want to go harder, I want to go big, and I would like to go overseas – by myself or with my mother again.
Q: What will you be doing this festive season?
A: I’m super-stoked to hit the beach and get in a good swim or two. I’m all about soaking up the sun and I’m looking forward to the summer ‘fits. I can’t wait to see what opportunities open up for me — this is the time for events and collabs.
Q: Your best holiday memories?
A: Christmas at my grandma’s house. We just celebrate there and spend time with the family, and I really enjoy that.
Q: One thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
A: I’m an early bird. I like to get a good night’s sleep and tend to wind down at around 8 or 9pm. You won’t find me out and about late at night… I’m happy to be cosied up at home.
Q: What insights about your work can you share with others?
A: I’ve learned to focus on my own path and not worry about what others think. It’s essential to stay true to yourself and your vision. With determination and hard work, you can achieve anything. Don’t be afraid to take risks and make mistakes — just learn from them and keep moving forward!
