Nowadays it seems like there’s a new musician or actor popping up every week! It can be hard to keep track of the ones blazing a trail among a lot of one-hit wonders. We’ve got a few rising stars we think will be making waves for years to come. Make sure you’re keeping your eyes on them!
AYRA STARR
This Nigerian singer started out covering her favourite artists’ songs on Instagram, gaining the attention of a record label. Now Ayra Starr has had several songs top charts globally and earned a nomination at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards for Best African Music Performance! It’s clear her career in Afropop and RnB is going to be big, and she’s even collaborated with South Africa’s own Tyla.
AMBIKA MOD
Gaining popularity after her role in the emotional Netflix miniseries One Day, Ambika is no stranger to a serious role. She’s played in British medical comedy-drama This Is Going to Hurt, about the experience of a junior doctor in an obstetrics and gynaecology ward. You can expect another stellar performance from her in the upcoming Disney+ series Playdate.
NOAH KAHAN
With sold-out shows across the United States and United Kingdom, this American singer-songwriter’s viral song, “Stick Season”, has reached almost every corner of TikTok! To date, Kahan has collaborated with the likes of Post Malone, Kacey Musgraves, Hozier and many more of our favourites. It’s safe to say he’s on our playlists this cosy season with his warm vocals and acoustics.
AYO EDEBIRI
Starting out in the comedy scene, Edebiri rose to star status with her casting as Sydney Adamu in hit dramedy series The Bear. From there on, there was no way the world wasn’t going to see more of her, scooping up multiple awards for Best Actress at the Black Reel, Satellite and Critics’ Choice Awards, plus Outstanding Performances from the NAACP and Screen Actors Guild. You’ve probably also heard her voice in Big Mouth, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and Inside Out 2!
MARGARET QUALLEY
The daughter of acclaimed actress Andie MacDowell, Margaret is following in her mother’s footsteps on the Hollywood scene. She’s recently starred in the Netflix drama Maid, about a single mother who escapes an abusive relationship and turns to cleaning to provide a better life for her daughter. She’ll star alongside Emma Stone, William Dafoe, Keke Palmer and many other big names in her latest film, Kinds of Kindness, hitting theatres in June 2024.
ARCHIE MADEKWE
You’ll be very familiar with this one if you watched the jaw dropping 2023 film, Saltburn. Madekwe truly has shown his range when it comes to acting, starring in anything from action to dramas and not being shy when it comes to psychological thrillers. Whether it’s acting as a gamer-turned-race-car-driver in Gran Turismo or playing Simon in Midsommar, we can’t wait to see what genre he’ll move to next!
