Sweat can wreak havoc on your locks if left unchecked. Luckily, a few smart tweaks to your routine can help protect your hair while you hit your fitness goals.

Pre-workout protection

Before you even start sweating, prep your hair. Apply a dry shampoo to your roots to soak up excess moisture before it hits or use a leave-in conditioner to form a barrier against salt and grime. If you tend to sweat heavily around your hairline, a moisture-wicking headband or silk scarf can keep sweat at bay while looking stylish.

Smart styling

Choose hairstyles that reduce sweat exposure while minimising tension. A loose bun, braids, or twists protect the hair shaft and limit sweat penetration. Protective styles like cornrows, flat twists or pineapple updos work wonders for curly textures. Always use gentle, snag-free hair ties to prevent breakage.

Post-workout care

Once your session is over, rinse your hair or scalp as soon as possible to remove salt and residue. If a full wash isn’t practical, use a gentle cleansing mist or micellar water spray on your scalp. When detangling, remember that wet hair is fragile. Always use a wide-tooth comb to limit breakage.
