Delicious scones 3 ways

Perfect for breakfast, tea time or an after dinner snack, these easy-to-make scones are just too delicious to resist. There’s one for every taste bud – savoury, sweet or traditional, and if you can’t decide which one to make, try them all!
What you’ll need for cheesy scones:
- 1 cup flour
- 10ml baking powder
- ½ cup cold butter cubes
- ½ cup crispy bacon
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 1 cup full cream milk
- 3 tsbp chopped parsley
- Cookie cutter
- Greased baking tray
How to make it:
- Mix together 1 cup flour and 10ml baking powder
- Add ½ cup cold butter cubes
- Rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs
- Add ½ cup crispy bacon and 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
- Mix well
- Stir in 1 cup full cream milk – be careful not to overmix!
- Lightly dust a surface with flour
- Sprinkle the dough with 3 tsbp chopped parsley and gently roll out
- Use a cookie cutter to press out the scones
- Place on a greased baking tray
What you’ll need for savoury scones:
- 1 cup flour
- 10ml baking powder
- ½ chopped red pepper
- 2 tsbp thyme
- 1 cup grated mozzarella
- 1 cup caramelised onions (or onion marmalade)
- ¾ cup full cream milk
How to make it:
- Prepare your base mix
- Add ½ chopped red pepper
- 2 tsbp thyme
- 1 cup grated mozzarella
- and 1 cup caramelised onions (or onion marmalade)
- Mix well
- Add ¾ cup full cream milk and stir to combine
- Repeat the rolling and cutting out process
- If the dough sticks to the rolling pin a little, dust with extra flour
What you’ll need for strawberry shortcake scones:
- 1 cup flour
- 10ml baking powder
- ½ castor sugar
- 1 cup full cream milk
- 1 cup chopped strawberries
How to make it:
- Prepare your base mix
- Add ½ castor sugar
- Add 1 cup full cream milk
- Stir well to combine
- Roll out your dough on a lightly floured surface and cut out three circles
- Brush each circle with a little melted butter and sprinkle with a little castor sugar
- Layer another dough circle on top of that
- Repeat the process
- Brush the savoury scones on your baking tray with a little milk
- Bake in a preheated oven of 180°C for 15-20 minutes (or until puffed and slightly browned)
- Should the scones brown too much, turn your oven down to 160°C for the last 5-7 minutes
- In the meantime: place 1 cup chopped strawberries and 1/3 cup castor sugar in a small bowl and mix
- Leave to marinade for 10-15 minutes
- Serve and enjoy!
