The secret to healthy, hydrated, great-looking skin starts with finding a moisturiser that's expertly crafted for your skin type.

The key to perfect skin is the perfect moisturiser. Are you using the right one, specifically formulated for your skin type? We’ve all been there – from blackheads and pimples to hyperpigmentation and dark patches under the eyes. The truth is, neglecting skincare can lead to issues that often affect one’s self-esteem. Using the incorrect product could lead to you aggravating your skin without even realising it, and this could lead to breakouts, dryness and irritation.

The right formula will support your skin’s natural barrier, regulate oil production and add to that overall glow. So, don’t guess know your skin type to maximise the benefits of moisturising. Also pay attention to how your skin type may change over the years and adjust your skincare accordingly.

Normal skin

Not too oily, not too dry. Normal skin has fine pores, even tone and a soft and smooth texture. It requires a gentle, lightweight and hydrating moisturiser to maintain its natural pH balance.

Dry skin

Feels tight, looks dull and/or flaky, has fine lines and a rough texture. Dry skin needs a richer, nourishing moisturiser especially in winter when it can feel parched and dry. Look for ingredients, like glycerin, ceramides and emollient oils that hydrate and retain moisture.

Oily skin

You have a shiny complexion. It can feel constantly greasy and have enlarged pores. Heightened sebum production often results in blackheads, pimples and other blemishes. While oily skin requires non-greasy products that won’t block pores (look for gel formulas and ‘non-comedogenic’ on the label), don’t skimp on the hydration. Look for products with ceramides, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and hydroxic acids (AHAs and BHAs). A mattifying moisturiser will offer additional shine-control benefits.

Combination skin

The T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) tends to be oily and shiny, while cheeks may be dry. With combination skin, it’s all about maintaining the equilibrium. Use a gentle, non-stripping moisturiser that will address both oily and dry areas without disrupting the balance.

Sensitive skin

This skin type is more prone to irritation and can react to skin products, diet and weather. Sensitive skin is characterised by redness, itching and/or a burning sensation. It’s best to steer clear of products that could irritate your skin, so always opt for a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic moisturiser and ones that have soothing, calming, natural ingredients.

Mature skin

Mature skin shows fine lines or wrinkles, sagging, age spots and reduced elasticity. Ageing is a natural part of life, but you can give your skin extra support to smooth it out or plump it up. Look for face creams containing ceramides, hyaluronic acid, collagen and brighteners such as vitamin C, retinol and niacinamide.
