There's a hot new colour trend making the rounds this summer! Whether you love it or hate it, neon is one fashion trend that’s here to stay.
While it might seem difficult to pull off, these popping shades are not as intimidating as it seems at first glance. Kim Kardashian, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Ashley Graham and our local celebs like Bonang, Thembi Seete and Boity have been shining bright in the neon trend. It was all over the Spring/Summer 2019 runways of New York Fashion Week and designers such as Donatella Versace have created wearable collections with neon colours that you can easily include in your own wardrobe.

HOT GREEN

If you aren’t ready for a head-to-toe neon look just yet, you can start small and go for a subtler look by wearing one neon item in your look. Ashley Graham has mixed her neon green with a blue high-waisted cigar pant, which balances the look perfectly.

For those daring enough to go full neon, this look is definitely up your alley. A model at the Valentino Womenswear Spring/Summer 2020 show at Paris Fashion Week wears a neon green dress with a matching belt, which is teamed with nude sandals to mute the brightness of the dress. Her hair is kept natural in simple cornrows. This super bright look-at-me hue is completely doable as long as you team it with minimal accessories.
Ayanda Thabethe’s look is the most fun! She opted for a sexy one-shoulder tank top and distressed denims, which she matched with green snakeskin high heels. She broke the intensity of the colour by keeping everything else simple with minimal accessories. This is a basic neon green look to try if you don’t want to be too bright.

Kim Kardashian pulled off a pink activewear inspired outfit from her husband, Kanye West’s, collection. She wears a zipped windbreaker jacket and tight pants, white sneakers and finished the look with a sleek ponytail. Her ever-so-cute daughter, North West, was also on-trend in an adorable Chinese collar neon green dress, white sneakers and matching handbag. They are the perfect mom and daughter duo!
Bonang always delivers unmatched fashion looks wherever she goes. Since pink is her favourite colour, it comes as no surprise that she’d be all over the neon pink trend. She went OTT with a head-to-toe pink outfit, which includes pink shoes, a pink bag and bra. Sjoe, there’s only one Queen B!
Thembi’s look is playful and sophisticated just like her. She took a softer approach to the trend and muted the super bright pink with a white tank top and nude high heels.

Fashion designer Donatella Versace’s Women's Spring/Summer 2019 runway shows in Milan celebrated neon colours and bright prints. She showcased beautiful designs in orange, pink and green. As one of the most trusted voices in high fashion and a leader in upcoming trends, it’s a further indication of the neon colour palette’s staying power.
Kylie Jenner took a fun and playful approach to the neon orange trend by wearing a sporty orange jumpsuit with a platinum blonde wig. This combo is perfect for those looking for an athleisure aesthetic.
Boity is always bold with her fashion choices. She chose a bright orange two-piece, which accentuates her curves beautifully, and paired it with printed heels and a headscarf with hints of orange. This is a well-balanced look that’s easy to copy.
