TSHEPI VUNDLA AND SINAWO HALI’S 2020 FASHION FORECAST

We asked two social media influencers about their fashion and beauty predictions for 2020.

Tshepi Vundla is a social media influencer, fashion stylist, wardrobe designer and one of Joburg’s well-known socialites. Fashion isn’t just a passion for Tshepi, she’s made it her business too. She’s always loved fashion, even as a little girl, and went on to study fashion design after school. Tshepi has also been a model, stylist, personal shopper, and finally a consultant under her own brand, Twelve12.

With over 209 000 followers on Instagram, Tshepi definitely knows a thing or two about what’s hot and what’s not. Today she shares with us which trend she’d like to leave behind in 2019, and her fashion forecast for 2020.

WHAT ARE YOUR FASHION AND STYLE PREDICTIONS FOR 2020?
My prediction would be that we will see more of the disco collars, crochet, neon (highlighter) colours, tiered and layered dresses and skirts as well as ‘60s print dresses.

WHAT TREND DO YOU REALLY WANT TO SEE GO AWAY?
Right now I would say the Cinderella PVC heels. It doesn’t work for me because the steaming and misting of the feet becomes visible after a couple of hours when wearing the heels. Urgh, sweaty feet!

WHAT’S YOUR FASHION HIGHLIGHT FOR 2019?
I fell in love with the Chanel Spring/Summer 2020 Ready-to-Wear Show; it's my runway highlight in 2019!

WHICH LOCAL DESIGNERS ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT?
Ara Emporium, her ready to wear clothing is so refreshing. Her red carpet looks are everything. She literally designs for every South African woman!

WHO IS YOUR ULTIMATE STYLE ICON, LOCALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY?
Locally it would have to be Nandipha Mqoco, and internationally Rihanna.

WHAT BEAUTY TRENDS ARE YOU FOLLOWING RIGHT NOW?
I am currently obsessed with dramatic eyelashes, PrettyLeealashes are my go-to brand. I love switching up my wigs to match my mood and outfit. A red lip is always a good idea – plus it’s my signature look!

WHAT BEAUTY PRODUCT CAN YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT?
My go-to beauty products are Maybelline Hydrating primer, Nivea sunblock and my Labello lip balm.

WHAT IS YOUR MORNING BEAUTY ROUTINE?
The day starts with a good cleanse, facial scrub, toner, serum and then face cream or sunblock.

WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR TAKING CARE OF YOUR SKIN?
Drink lots of water, it helps keep your skin well hydrated. Use sunblock even with your foundation, to help protect from harmful UV rays. Always remember to get enough sleep, your skin needs to recover and regenerate.

SINAWO HALI
Sinawo Hali is a brand marketing freelancer, fashion stylist and social media influencer. He has an undeniable love for fashion and style and is building his brand with a strong focus on colour, simplicity and complete sophistication.

Currently, he’s working with big production houses such as SABC 3, well-known retail brands, and a couple of male skincare beauty brands. We caught up with him to chat about his fashion highlights for 2019 and his ultimate style icons.

WHAT ARE YOUR FASHION AND STYLE PREDICTIONS FOR 2020?
When it comes to style I have a couple of items that will always be my every season staples – like distressed jeans, a black leather jacket, and military prints for both pants and jackets. In terms of colour, Pantone colours are always a win and the colour for 2020 is Classic Blue.

WHAT WAS YOUR FASHION HIGHLIGHT FOR 2019?
The Thebe Magugu Spring/Summer 2019 collection and his huge LVMH (LVMH Moët Hennessy) win that has made a huge fashion mark with global recognition. Also, the Rich Mnisi and Bonang Matheba Glamour magazine cover! This was a huge proudly South African moment for our local designers, and solidified Rich Mnisi’s and Bonang’s place in the industry.

WHICH LOCAL DESIGNERS ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT?
I am all about promoting and celebrating young, black creatives such as Rich Mnisi, Thebe Magugu and Imprint. I am pretty stoked about what they will be creating for 2020.

WHO IS YOUR ULTIMATE STYLE ICON?
Locally I would say Bonang Matheba, Rich Mnisi and internationally it would be Law Roach, Celine Dion, Filippo Cirulli, Rachel Zoe and Kim Kardashian.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ARE THE CURRENT BEAUTY TRENDS?
I think beauty trends have moved from artificial beauty such as heavy make-up to more holistic skincare trends and self-care routines. Lately, people care more about the health of their skin rather than glam beauty.

WHAT BEAUTY PRODUCT CAN’T YOU LIVE WITHOUT?
I am a simple guy and I only use the following products:
• Neutrogena Hydro Boost Face Wash
• Activated Charcoal Masks
• Sunscreen to moisturise
• Zambuck for my lips

WHAT MORNING SKIN ROUTINE DO YOU FOLLOW?
I don’t have one, I just make sure that I exfoliate twice a week.

ANY MALE GROOMING ADVICE?
Exfoliate and drink lots and lots of water. The number one product you should always use is sunscreen, it’s always your weapon of protection from the sun!
