OUR TOP CELEBRITY WEDDING GOWNS FOR 2021

We look up to public figures for style, confidence, and success – but there’s nothing quite like a celebrity wedding to make us feel even closer to a fairytale.

We look back at some magical moments when our favourite celebrities said ‘I do’ to the love of their life. From traditional to white wedding ceremonies, we’ve got the perfect shortlist that will have you swooning.

LIESL LAURIE

Former Miss South Africa Liesl Laurie-Mthombeni married TV personality and medical doctor Musa Mthombeni. Speaking to Martin Bester on Jacaranda FM about her wedding dress, Liesl explained that she did not want to spend a lot of money on her wedding.

"So everyone is so shocked that the dress was rented. But why would I spend R45 000 on a dress, because that's a high-end dress from a maker in Italy if I'm not mistaken? And to buy that dress here in South Africa started at like R42 000. We went for the options that were the cheapest but obviously also still the prettiest," explaining why she rented her dress instead. The one-shoulder trumpet dress had a smooth silhouette with a trail long enough for just the right amount of sophistication.

TAMARYN GREEN

It was clearly an ‘I do’ year for former Miss SA pageant queens. Another former Miss South Africa, Tamaryn Green, got married earlier this year. The picturesque umembeso ceremony with her businessman beau, Ze Nxumalo, was nothing short of tradimodern (a mix of traditional and modern) glam. Tamaryn’s royal blue sweetheart neckline ballgown was embellished with traditional Zulu beading around the corset and on the bottom of the dress, matching with her isicholo, a traditional Zulu hat. Some have called Tamaryn and Ze’s occasion “Umembeso ceremony of the year”.

K NAOMI

Model and presenter, Keitumetse Noinyane, who’s known as K Naomi, recently shared her Setswana wedding attire on Instagram- this, two months after announcing her engagement. The simple and flowy traditional skirt with straps was paired with a white t-shirt that had a matching print on the sleeves. The attire accommodated her growing baby bump. In a post on Instagram after her engagement, the bride gushed, “I’m still in awe… This is really a love like no other, nothing I ever imagined to happen to me. A God thing. I prayed for you. I love you so much baby! So excited for our future.”

ISSA RAE

The Insecure actress, writer, and producer married her long-time boyfriend and businessman, Louis Diame. The wedding was held in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, south of France. Her custom Vera Wang gown is a tulle ballgown with a sweetheart neckline. In an exclusive interview with SELF magazine, the star reveals very little about her marriage and her goals, “I’m extremely happy, I like my life, I like this selfishness, and I know that I have a window. I still try to be private about my personal life, but that was something that I knew was going to be shared, and I just wanted to share it on my own terms.”

Getting married soon? Here are some wedding gown shopping tips:

Stick to your budget: It’s easy to fall victim to emotional buying – especially because this is a very special time for you. No matter how tempted, try to stick to your budget and remember that there is a lifetime worth of memories to follow.

Go for a style that suits: Go for a style that suits your body type, not because you saw it on someone and loved it. This will save you the stress of somehow trying to make a style that normally wouldn’t, work for you.

Hire instead of buying: Just like Liesl Laurie, opt to hire a dress instead of buying it. This will save you time, money, and the stress of coming up with a design.
