BABY BUMPS IN 2020

It hasn't been all doom and gloom for some of our favourite celebrities who announced they were expecting or delivered precious bundles of joy in 2020.

Going through pregnancy is a special experience, but probably even more so when you are in the limelight. By sharing the news on social media with millions of followers, it quickly turns into a pregnancy journey for the fans as well. From the millions of congratulatory messages from followers and other celebrities to free advice from doctors, endorsement deals, and those custom-made designer baby clothes from big brands, it becomes an exciting ride with plenty of benefits. Many celebs have been generous by inviting us into their pregnancy journeys by sharing their private and intimate moments.

We look back at those who proudly showed off their baby bumps or bundles for us.

KELLY ROWLAND
In October 2020, singer and former Destiny Child's member Kelly Rowland revealed that she was pregnant with her second child with husband Tim Weatherspoon. She first showed off her baby bump on the November cover of Women's Health magazine issue. Kelly was hesitant to reveal her pregnancy, simply because there were so many global issues, such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement. It just didn't feel right to share the happy news when the world was going through a lot. She is now, however, embracing her baby bump with her husband and 5-year-old son, Titan. She loves sharing dancing videos on TikTok and fitness posts on Instagram.

CIARA AND RUSSELL WILSON
Ciara and her husband, NFL football player Russell Wilson, extended their family with baby number three! In January 2020, Ciara revealed her small baby bump while on holiday in Turks and Caicos in the Bahamas. Ciara was in full 'preggy mommy' mode, regularly posting pictures of herself with her growing stomach and loving every moment of it. This will be her second child with husband Russell Wilson, she shares her firstborn with ex-fiancé, rapper Future. The couple posted a gender reveal video in April, where blue confetti rained down signalling it's was a boy on the way. In July 2020, Ciara gave birth to a sweet baby boy named Win. As well as enjoying their new son, Ciara and Russell have also been giving back through their foundation.

KEVIN AND ENIKO HART
Comedy rock star Kevin Hart and wife Eniko Hart are on baby number two. That brings their family to a total of six! Kevin has two children from a previous marriage, a daughter Heaven (15), and a son Hendrix (12). Together, Eniko and Kevin have a two-year-old baby boy, Kenzo. Eniko has been very active during her second pregnancy by posting fitness and exercise videos, cycling, yoga, and beauty techniques. In September 2020, the Hart family welcomed a baby girl named Kaori, and they have been doting on her ever since! While Kevin continues to work as a movie star and stand-up comedian, he prioritises family time and shares hilarious family pictures on social media.

KWESTA AND YOLANDA VILAKAZI
Kwesta and Yolanda Vilakazi also caught pregnancy fever in 2020. They announced that they were expecting in August. Kwesta continued to be busy during the lockdown period, releasing new music and performing online. He also shared some difficult moments. Yolanda posted on Instagram what a turbulent pregnancy she's had from her uncertainties and fears about the pandemic, and her miscarriage scare. Through it all, the couple pulled through and are grateful for their little miracle. Yolanda gave birth in November to baby girl Kenya Elihle Vilakazi.

PEARL MODIADIE
Media personality and Metro FM host Pearl Modiadie, has had a different pregnancy journey than most celebs. She has kept everything very hush, not revealing a single detail. A member of her management team finally revealed the news to the media. Her PR team said that Pearl decided to keep her pregnancy private because of her cultural beliefs and that she wanted to ensure the safest possible passage into the world for her unborn child. She did not share the baby's gender or name but had some fun on Twitter when she created a poll for baby name suggestions from her fans. Pearl showed off her first baby bump photoshoot images a month after giving birth in October to adorable Olivier Letlwale.

USAIN BOLT AND KASI BENNETT
In January, legendary Olympic star Usain Bolt revealed that he and his long-time girlfriend Kasi Bennet were expecting their first child together when he posted a sweet message on his Instagram page. Kasi and Usain have been together since 2014 and were both overly excited about this new chapter in their lives, posting baby bump pictures and gushing over each other. In July 2020, Kasi gave birth to a baby girl appropriately named Olympia Lightning Bolt. Usain has always wanted to have kids and has thanked Kasi for making his dream come true, "Now we have started a new chapter together with our daughter Olympia Lightning Bolt. Although I look forward to what the future will bring for us, I will always be the ROCK for this family," He is beyond proud and excited to be a dad!

GRIMES AND ELON MUSK
On 4 May, Grimes and Elon Musk welcomed their baby boy, a X Æ A-12 Musk. Since announced on Twitter, no one quite knew what the name meant or how to pronounce it. Grimes then explained: X means "the unknown variable," Æ is "my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)" and A-12 is the precursor to the couple's favourite aircraft; no weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent." However, the couple was later asked to change the name, as the California state constitution only allowed alphabetical characters, with a few exceptions. The name changed to X Æ A-Xii, but to be honest, we're still in the dark about how to pronounce this one.

KATY PERRY & ORLANDO BLOOM
Pop star Katy Perry first revealed her pregnancy in the music video for her song called 'Never Worn White' released in March 2020. At the end of the video, Katy strokes her baby bump while singing about her love for her fiancé. Orlando Bloom is already a dad. He shares a 9-year-old boy with model Miranda Kerr, while it's Katy's first. In August 2020, the couple announced the birth of their baby girl named Daisy Bloom. They announced UNICEF's (which they are Goodwill Ambassadors for) Instagram page giving a quote saying, "But we know we're the lucky ones. Not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was. Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes," in efforts to encourage donations to the charity.

GIGI HADID AND ZAYN MALIK
The world-famous supermodel Gigi Hadid and singer Zayn Malik became parents for the first time in September when Gigi gave birth to their precious baby girl. Smitten with their little bundle, Zayn took to social media and wrote, "To try [to] put into words how I am feeling right now would be an impossible task. The love I feel for this tiny human is beyond my understanding. Grateful to know her, proud to call her mine, and thankful for the life we will have together." Soon after, Hadid also expressed her adoration, "Our girl joined us earth-side this weekend and she's already changed our world. So in love."

We're yet to find out the name of their little girl, but if these besotted parents are anything to go by, we're certain it's something super sweet.
