Everyone knows that herbs and spices can elevate any meal. The only problem is that fresh herbs don’t always last as long as we’d like them to. In this video we show you how to make herbs last longer.
These three drying techniques are quick and easy and will help you save money over time. No more tossing out wilted herbs. Simply apply your favourite drying technique to a herb of your choice, crush the leaves and store in a jar of your choice to use when needed.
What you’ll need:
Herbs of your choice. For this video we used basil and rosemary.
How to do it:
To dry basil:
- Place basil on an oven-safe rack
- Pop the rack in a preheated oven of 180°C for 20 minutes or until leaves are crisp
- Crush the leaves into a jar and store
- Arrange 6 skewers on a microwavable plate
- Place one paper towel on top
- Break the leaves off the stem and place them onto the paper towel
- Place a second sheet on top
- Place in a microwave for 30 seconds at a time, until leaves are crisp
- Crush the leaves into a jar and store
To dry rosemary:
- Remove a few sprigs of rosemary from the stem at the bottom
- Tie the rosemary bunches together and hang upside down for 1 week
- After one week, rosemary will be dry and crisp
- Crush the leaves into a jar and store
