3 YUMMY FAST FOOD SNACKS TO MAKE AT HOME


Few things are as satisfying as your favourite fast food snacks, but when it’s too late to order in, it’s always great to know how to whip it up yourself. Save these recipes to banish those late night cravings.


What you’ll need for the potato hash browns:
  • 1 ½ cups peeled and grated potato
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2 Cups vegetable oil

How to do it:
  1. Peel and grate the potato and place it in a cloth.
  2. Squeeze out the excess liquid.
  3. Add the egg and salt and mix well.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and fry spoonfuls until brown and crispy.
  5. Top tip: Drop a small piece of potato into the oil. If it sizzles your oil is hot enough.
  6. Flip to ensure both sides are crispy.
  7. Drain on a paper towel.

What you’ll need for the oven baked chips:
  • 1-2 large potatoes
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp cornflour
  • Salt
  • Dried herbs of your choice
  • Mayo for serving

How to do it:
  1. Peel and cut a large potato into 1cm thick chips.
  2. Coat with oil and cornflour
  3. Season with herbs of your choice
  4. Bake in a preheated oven of 200°C, turning until golden brown

What you’ll need for the chicken nuggets:
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 Cups self-raising flour
  • 3 tbsp garlic flakes
  • Deboned thighs
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • Serve with tomato sauce

How to do it:
  1. Dip deboned chicken thighs into eggs, flour with salt and garlic flakes.
  2. Place onto a baking tray. Repeat with all chicken pieces.
  3. Heat oil and fry the chicken on both sides until golden.
  4. Drain excess oil on a paper towel.
