Lymphedema, a condition that causes swelling on different parts of the body, is due to lymphatic system blockage.

Signs of lymphatic system blockage:

  • Live well. Maintain a healthy and balanced diet that is high in antioxidants, potassium, and phenols. These ingredients help decrease inflammation and can be found in broccoli, berries, peppers, turmeric, dark chocolate and tomatoes.
  • Get active. Exercising helps excess fluid move out of the swollen limb by gently contracting the muscles in the arm or leg.
  • Compress. Compression bandaging is a technique used to create a safe and effective gradient compression using several layers of various materials. This aids in the reduction of lymphedema-related swelling.
  • Invest in clothes that compress. Compression garments can also help lymph fluid drainage. To ensure the right amount of compression, these garments frequently require a prescription, and you may need to get your measurements taken by a specialist to ensure a perfect fit.



Be careful
When living with lymphedema, cuts, scratches, and burns are all prone to infection. So, avoid hurting the affected area or being harmed by sharp items to lessen the risk of lymphedema complications. Medical options are also available to treat this condition, and they can be conducted for both early and severe stages.

And while it’s important to find solutions to the swelling, it’s also important to find ways to cope:
  • Understanding lymphedema and the reasons behind it will help you communicate your concerns with your doctor or physical therapist.
  • Attend support groups to talk to people who have similar issues.
  • Take good care of your overall health for mental and physical wellbeing.
