WINTER DÉCOR TRENDS FOR YOUR HOME

Seasonal décor updates are a great way to ensure that your home stays on-trend and is always comfortably kitted out for the prevailing weather.

These updates need not be costly and can be as practical as swopping thin summer sheets for thicker winter ones or introducing extra warmth in the form of a chunky throw in an on-trend colour. By focusing on soft furnishings and smalls, you can get your home ready for cooler days without spending a fortune on new furniture.

GO BOLD
From the runway to the home, rich jewel tones are the colours of Autumn/ Winter 2022. These royal shades of deep blue, teal, purple, ruby and emerald add instant warmth and glamour to interiors. Try soft smalls such as throws, blankets and scatter cushions in these on-trend colours. They’re the perfect way to instantly update your home’s interior.

You can also pair accessories in jewel tones with neutrals such as rich creams and greys to keep them from overwhelming your space.

CHOOSE OVERSIZED BOTANICAL PRINTS
Floral prints remain popular this season, but where dainty floral prints ruled previously, large-format botanical prints are now in style. This makes it especially great for bed linen, as a bed’s large horizontal surface can easily pull off a bold print. Available in various hues – from burnished orange and blue to deep purple with pops of forest green – there is a colourway and design to suit every person’s taste.

To keep floral prints from looking dated, pair them with another pattern such as a geometric motif or striped design. Better yet, look for bedding with a different pattern on the reverse; that way, you get two designs for the price of one. Then reinforce the botanical theme by adding houseplants (whether real or faux) to your interior for a complete transformation.

ADD TEXTURED ACCESSORIES
When decorating, our focus often falls on colour and adding new items to a space. However, a great way to add loads of visual interest to a room is through texture. Texture can draw us in, making us want to take a closer look. Create a super-inviting space by adding beautiful textured velvet or velour blankets and scatter cushions to your couch or bed. And don’t be afraid to mix multiple, contrasting textures for a designer touch.

Remember, texture isn’t just about blankets and cushions. Home accessories such as vases, ornaments, picture frames or lighting fixtures in different materials and finishes (a lamp with a metal base and rippled glass shade, for instance) can also add textural interest.

LIGHT CANDLES
Candlelight can quickly and easily transform a room by casting a soft warm glow that is welcoming, it’s also an affordable way to add a touch of sophistication to bedrooms or bathrooms, especially if you want to create an ultra-luxe, spa-like feel. Plus, there is a wide range of colours, shapes and scents available to choose from, so you’ll find one that complements your interior.

Plus, once your candle has burned down, you can reuse the glass containers as small pots for plants – they can look lovely on a windowsill or grouped on a table.

INVEST IN DESIGNER-LOOK BATHROOM ESSENTIALS
Vibrant coloured or patterned bath sheets and mats are an easy way to update your bathroom instantly. This season, look for items in hot mustard or gold hues to make a bland space come alive with colour on dreary winter days. If you don’t want to go bold with colour in your bathroom, opt for neutral-hued bathmats with a textured pattern for extra interest.
