We love a good summer moment, but with the scorching weather, it’s sometimes best to stay inside. Look at these great indoor activities to keep your children safe from rising temperatures.
Start an indoor garden
Not only will your kids learn about planting, but they’ll also love getting their hands dirty with this fun educational activity. All you need are some seeds and empty egg cartons. Your children will learn to water and take care of these little plants. Whether it’s the beginning of a herb garden or you want to grow some beautiful flowers, your kids can keep a journal to keep track of the growth. In no time you’ll be able to reap the rewards and use those herbs in your dishes. A day indoors well spent!
Break out the board games
Playing games is always fun when indoors – no matter the weather. Dust off those board games and start playing. It’s great for spending family time. You can even take the DIY approach and make board games and puzzles yourself. Give your kids a few items that you can find around the house. Your little ones will cut and paste the day away, and it gives you an hour or two to watch the latest episode of The Wife.

Cook and bake the day away
Get those little hands dirty in the kitchen with kid-friendly recipes – with your help, of course. Not only will it improve their future culinary skills, but it’s simply good (dirty) fun. Cupcakes are always a winner, decorating them will be the highlight. You can even make your edible jewellery… and snack on them later! Yum!
Build an indoor obstacle course
Although we would love to spend a peaceful and cool day inside – it just doesn’t work like that with kids. So why not keep them super busy and active by building an indoor obstacle course? Nothing is off limits to use, from chairs, tables, and blankets – anything to climb over through and crawl under. Obstacle courses are a fantastic way of keeping them occupied for hours. And a movie night with snacks can be the reward for the massive clean-up to ensue after turning the house upside down.
