5 DAD-FLUENCERS IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Make way for the dad-fluencers! The fathers who are using social media to share insightful tips and parenting hacks, sandwiched between dad jokes – here are our fav online dads you should check out.

@thedonfathersa by Don Dinnematin
Don is a husband, father, and award-winning blogger. Don says he always wanted to write but found his thoughts were clouded and struggled to settle on a topic. After becoming a father in 2015, his inspiration to create a platform for dads was born – information for new moms was readily available, but not as much for dads. The rest, as they say, is history!

@growingupwithdads by Jeffrey Wright and Bryce Abplanalp
Jeffrey Wright and Bryce Abplanalp are two dads raising twins in Utah. The pair is open about their relationship with the LGBTQ+ community and their lives as gay parents. Jeffrey and Bryce shared that for them, it was weird transitioning from ‘pretty normal’ to coming up with twins the next day. “We were kinda pregnant for 34 weeks, but not really. We didn't have to deal with morning sickness and cramps, and the struggles of pregnancy — so for us, it was a real shock coming home with two babies,” says the couple. And while they have encountered their fair share of homophobia online and in real life, they have also received immense support from their more than 18 000 followers on Instagram.

@babydaddydeej by David Gomez
Wholesome, funny, and very real, David Gomez shares tips and advice as a dad to young kids. He shares his thoughts through funny skits on TikTok – like trying to nap when you have kids running around. He also records serious moments, such as trying to balance work and parenting, and some sweet moments, such as the time he cried when his daughter slept in her own bed for the first time. David says he always wanted to write about being a ‘baby daddy’ when he had found numerous articles and apps just for moms. This space is perfect for new dads trying to navigate parenthood and dads-to-be completely lost in the process.

@AfroDaddy by Terence Mentor
tal marketer by day, daddy influencer by night! The Afro Daddy blog is probably one of the most popular ones in South Africa. Terence says his two sons, who were born eighteen months apart, are his muse behind the witty YouTube videos and blog posts. He adds that the purpose of his blog is to celebrate both sides of parenting – giving appreciation to the wonderful, joyous moments, as well as the screaming, crying ones, too. Terence Mentor embraces all the struggles and triumphs of being a dad in the 21st century.

@beliefmel (Beleaf in Fatherhood) by Glen Henry
Join in on the beautiful blend of discipline, nurturing and tons of laughter found on the Beleaf in Fatherhood Instagram page. Creator Glen Henry says the best thing about his content is that he keeps it ‘real’. He says that he often found parenting content to be shaming or judging of other parents for the different choices they made. Beleaf’s message, instead, is one of encouragement and support for parents in the collective struggle.
