HEADER: DÉCOR TRENDS WORTH TRYING IN 2023

Design trends started to lean more towards minimalism: clean lines and scaled-down decor (you can thank Marie Kondo for that!). But now, things are taking quite the turn. The pandemic has played a big role in how people rethink their homes’ interior designs. Here are five ways to updo your home in 2023.

1. Embrace the curves
Modern curves add a unique edge and a touch of friendliness to any room, without feeling too overwhelming. Try bringing in recessed shelves, archways, and curvy sofas to create a design that is both functional, and artistic. Speaking of curvy couches, some curved furnishings allow for tête-à-têtes, or deep conversations between people.

This allows you to create intimate moods for relaxation and reconnection with others, following a time we were all hard pressed for intimate connection.

2. Incorporate a touch of nature
Nature has been the muse for human beings for centuries and influences many avenues of design. So, expect to see architecture, even furniture pieces, bring the outside in. Items made from acrylics will be swapped out for more sustainable materials like wood, steel, and glass. This year, we expect to see the sensory calm and raw simplicity trends of last year be reinforced in 2023 but with a stronger emphasis on sustainability.

3. Prints, patterns, and textures
This is the year to get creative! Striking patterns give a room a sense of energy. Instead of sticking to one pattern motif or colour, keep it varied and impactful. In 2023, we expect bold to be very on trend. And this artistry will not be limited to the walls. Furniture trends for 2023 points to colourful patterns in upholstery and other fabrics. Bold patterns and prints in combination with some texture adds depth and movement to the space.

4. Cosy lighting
In 2023, homemakers are shifting to create kinder and warmer spaces. The best way to achieve this is with good lighting. Expect floor lamps, table lamps and even candles to take precedence this year as ambient lighting becomes more popular. We should see more indirect lighting being used from eye-level fixtures, coves, and modern wall sconces. After a stressful day in front of a work laptop or PC, who wouldn’t like to relax with cosy lighting in the evenings?

5. Finding new purposes for old furniture
Thanks to the influence of TikTok, thrift stores are now seen as avenues to achieving tiny luxuries in life. Homeowners and renters are looking for new ways to bring life and to honour inherited and vintage pieces – Pinterest is calling it the “hipstoric home trend” which means to pair modern and antique furniture together.

Upcycling will continue to be a hot trend as the interest to create more personal and storied spaces increases. The history of these items can give an ordinary room a sense of personality and place.
