We love a clever DIY and this one is right up there! We share a step-by-step guide on how your little one can make Candy Jars for Mother's Day - perfect for mom/the motherly figures in their lives.
Nothing says ‘I love you’ more than a hand-made gift straight from the heart. These tissue paper ‘stained glass’ jars make great containers for all of mom’s favourite nibbles. What’s even cooler is that, once all her sweeties are gone, she can reuse her jar as a candle holder or to store just about anything she wants!
CAUTION AHEAD!
Ask an adult to read carefully through the instructions with you. Always ask for their help when handling glass.
You will need
- Colour tissue paper
- Scissors
- A foam brush or small paint brush
- Jar (recycle a baby food jar, or use a mason jar or small vase)
- Modge Podge
- Assorted colourful sweets
How to make it
STEP 1: Cut the tissue paper your choice.
STEP 2: Wash your jar with warm, soapy water and allow it to dry (this step is especially important if you are recycling a used jar).
STEP 3: Once dry, carefully brush a thin layer of Modge Podge on the outside of the jar. Make sure to coat it completely.
STEP 4: Take your tissue paper shapes and stick them onto the Modge Podge. It’s best to work in small portions at a time as the Modge Podge dries very quickly.
STEP 5: Once the surface of your jar is covered with tissue paper, brush over it with another layer of Modge Podge. This will seal and strengthen the paper, and make it water resistant. STEP 6: Let your jar dry completely. Add in your sweets and close the jar with the lid. Now you’re ready to spoil your mom!
Craft Tip
For some added decoration: Use a piece of string and some beads, and make a bracelet to put around the rim of your jar.
