3 WAYS TO STAY ACTIVE DURING THE COLDER DAYS

With the colder days on our doorstep, it’s natural to go into hibernation mode and put fitness on the back burner. Here are three useful tips for how to keep your body moving when the weather outside is frightful.

LAYER YOUR WORKOUT KIT
Whether you are running, taking a brisk walk or doing a yoga class outside, the crisp weather will greet you as you leave your house. Wear enough layers to prevent getting chilly. Opt for a base layer made of moisture-wicking material, and a warmer outer layer made of fleece or wool. If it’s windy outside, you can add another thin outer shell like a light jacket to protect against wind or rain.

TAKE YOUR FITNESS INSIDE
The colder weather has its perks – like having the perfect excuse not to set foot outside. Luckily, your fitness regime can adapt to staying indoors. From Pilates and yoga to cycling and even training for your first 5 km, there are plenty of online classes for you to follow to get a great workout from inside your home. And most of them are free! Thank goodness for the internet, right?

GET A WORKOUT BUDDY
Get yourself a fitness friend. Not only is it more fun to exercise with a friend, but you’ll have someone who can hold you accountable when the stormy weather makes you want to cosy up on the couch and doom scroll your day away. Find sports that are best played in pairs, like tennis, squash and even golf to get your body moving and have a fun time doing it.
