PACKING HACKS FOR YOUR (LONG) WEEKEND GETAWAY

Looking forward to the long weekend but dread the packing? Try these helpful techniques to make packing stress a thing of the past.

EDIT (AND RE-EDIT) YOUR PACKING PILE
Assemble all the clothing you think you may need and put them in piles according to similarity. Then, edit your piles. Do you need three pairs of jeans? Is it necessary to pack your puffiest jacket and five pairs of shoes for a weekend? We didn’t think so. Keep editing until your pile of garments is practical and pack versatile items that will pair well with your other clothing. Most importantly, make sure you’re your clothes fit comfortably into the luggage you chose for your getaway.

ROLL AND FOLD YOUR CLOTHING
Although both packing techniques get the job done, combining the two will take your packing game to the next level. Roll clothes with softer fabrics like underwear, knitwear and cotton pants to maximise space and keep it wrinkle-free. Stiffer fabrics, like blazers, structured skirts and dressier pants, should be carefully folded and placed on top of your rolled items to stay crease-free.

USE YOUR SHOES FOR EXTRA STORAGE
If you’re planning to pack them anyway, make your sneakers work for it. Your shoes can double up as the perfect little ‘compartment’ to store all your smaller bits and bobs like socks, underwear, cellphone chargers, and even sunglasses.

USE TRAVEL-SEIZED BOTTLES IN REUSABLE BAGS
Reuseable bags are the saviour for all your toiletry mishaps (looking at your full-sized bottle of shampoo spilling on clothes). When packing your toiletries, fill travel-sized bottles with liquid products and place them in reuseable bags. Not only will you save on storage space when you don’t lug around your full-sized bottles, but you avoid any spillage accidents.
