Self-care isn’t just a relaxing spa day or spoiling yourself with a decadent sweet treat (yum!). These three small acts of self-care will rejuvenate your spirit and transform your day.

LEARN TO SAY NO
Yes, you can say no – and it’s good for you! Learning to say no, one small word, is a very powerful way to practise self-care. Set healthy boundaries for yourself by making the word ‘no’ a regular in your vocabulary. We often take on too much by saying yes to everyone, often leaving us feeling overwhelmed and resentful.

"Many voices in your head may push you to say yes when you really want to say no, and the chief among these voices is the one that tells you that you risk being disliked if you say no. You must learn to tolerate the anxiety that saying no likely brings. Once you learn to do this, you will discover people don't dislike you for it. In fact, they'll likely respect you even more," explains " explains Dr Alex Lickerman, co-author of The Ten Worlds: The New Psychology of Happiness.

GET ENOUGH (HIGH QUALITY) SLEEP
Are you scrolling Instagram until the wee hours of the morning? Or going through your schedule while in bed to prepare for the next day (causing more anxiety than comfort)? In the hustle and bustle of life today, it can be difficult to switch off and get a good’s night rest before it all starts again the following morning. Set yourself up for success every day by getting in some proper Zs to feel your best. "To get those eight hours of sleep, make a mental note of a bedtime that would allow for it, and set your alarm an hour before that. This is your ‘wind down’ alarm," suggests Lucas Catenacci of F45 Training.

PRACTISE POSITIVE SELF-TALK
Didn’t drink your two litres of water today? Stayed in your pyjamas all day? Didn’t work as fast today? Don’t beat yourself up about it. It’s crucial to practise self-compassion every day.

"Pay attention to your self-talk and speak to yourself the way you would to someone you love. If you notice your self-talk isn't loving, catch it and try again with care," says marriage and family therapist Zereana Jess-Huff. So, cut out that negative talk and cut yourself some slack!
