4 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR FUTURE EMPLOYER AT YOUR JOB INTERVIEW

Grab their attention at your next job interview with these 4 questions.

Being prepared with a few of the right questions in a job interview can ensure that you stand out from the crowd and look prepared. Besides that, it can be a good indication to your future employer that you are curious about the company and make sure that the company is a right fit for you. Here are four questions you should ask in your next job interview:

HOW DOES THIS COMPANY FOSTER A WORK LIFE BALANCE FOR ITS EMPLOYEES?
Finding out whether the company makes sure that work takes place only during working hours, or gives time off for any overtime worked, will indicate whether they care about their employees’ work life balance. If you’re a parent, it’s a very important question to ask for those moments you might need to work from home to tend to your child during flu season or leave an hour earlier to make their graduation. If the interviewer struggles to answer this question, it could indicate that they’ve rarely thought to check in on those hard-working employees burning the midnight oil.

WHAT IS THE COMPANY CULTURE AND DIVERSITY LIKE?
It’s hard to be in an environment where you might feel like an outsider. Asking this question can reveal a lot about the way that staff behave within the workplace and if the company is dedicated to having people of all ethnicities, religions, genders and cultures contribute ideas. This can also allow you to see whether the company is simply trying to meet a quota or if they’ve always been committed to diversity and a good work environment.

HOW DOES THIS COMPANY MEASURE PERFORMANCE AND RECOGNISE EMPLOYEE ACHIEVEMENTS?
The answer to this question can indicate whether the company promotes often or provides recognition to employees who help the business achieve its goals. Finding out how they measure performance can help you take note of things you might want to work on or display if you end up working there. It can also show whether there is enough mentorship to foster employee performance.

WHY IS THIS ROLE CURRENTLY OPEN?
This question will allow you to see whether the company is growing fast and this might be the first time they’ve opened up the role, or if the last person in the position left. If the case is that someone left the company, it’s important to follow up with “why did the person leave the position” and “how long were they in the position before they left?” This will help you figure out if they left the environment due to a better opportunity or if the work might have been too demanding for them to keep up with.
