6 TIPS ON CLEANING OUT YOUR CLOSET: WHAT TO DITCH AND WHAT TO KEEP

Cleaning out your closet is truly the last thing you want to do, but it always feels so good to get rid of the old and make room for the new! Now that spring has arrived and (most of us) are still working at home, it’s high time that we get around to the task. So to help you out, we reached out to our Jet stylist, Bongiwe to find out which spring fashion trends to donate and which to replace them with.

DONATE: SKINNY JEANS
ADOPT: TAPERED JEANS
Bongi says: Women of all ages are getting bored of their skinny jeans but are not necessarily sold on an alternative. The skinny jean served us well for a while but we are definitely moving toward a more straight silhouette. Try a pair of 90’s classic denims, the slightly wider silhouette gives a nice edge when wearing flat spring sandals, a great pair of sneakers or your favourite heels.

DONATE: BASIC TEES/TANKS
ADOPT: TEES WITH A TWIST

Bongi says: While basic tees and tanks are classics, adopting a tee with a small twist will completely elevate your look. Graphic tees are a great addition for a fun and quirky edge, and a padded shoulder or a mesh sleeve will add an element of structure and style.

DONATE: HOODIES
ADOPT: OVERSIZED CARDIS
Bongi says: Try replacing your hoodies with just as comfortable options, such as oversized cardigans or boyfriend-fit jerseys. These trendier items still give the same warmth and comfort as your favourite hoodie but allow you to elevate your look from casual to chic.

DONATE: HURTFUL HEELS
ADOPT: PLAYFUL PLATFORMS
Bongi says: We all have those cute, uncomfortable heels that we think we’ll wear again one day. Two steps in them and it’s back to more sensible shoes because you’re still suffering from the trauma of the last time you wore them. Let them go and free up some space. Instead, adopt a pair of platforms that look good and feel good.

DONATE: ‘DAD’ SNEAKERS
ADOPT: SPORTY SNEAKERS
Bongi says: The ugly-turned-trendy oversized ‘dad’ sneakers made a comeback in the 2010s but are on the way out. Yes, they are an orthopaedic dream, but they look horrendous and are far from flattering. Instead opt for the retro, colourful, sneaker look. This look is incredibly fresh and modern, especially when paired with an all-neutral ensemble. Conversely, a burst-of-white sneaker makes a neutral-heavy outfit feel incredibly modern. Stock up accordingly!

DONATE: BIKER SHORTS
ADOPT: BERMUDA SHORTS

Bongi says: Goodbye, biker shorts. Hello, Bermuda shorts! Let’s be honest the tight spandex fit is not always the most flattering. Similar in length, the difference is Bermudas are more loosely fitted. Dress them up with a matching blazer for a suit look or dress it down with your favourite tee and sneakers.
