It’s heart-breaking when you realise your favourite lipstick has run out or your expensive blush has broken into million pieces. Make-up is pricey, and we’ll do everything to savour that last drip, smear and pat of our favourite product. Here’s how to make your make-up last longer for more flawless looks.
STORE YOUR MAKE-UP PENCILS IN A COOL PLACE
Do you store your make-up in the bathroom, where it’s warm and damp? We suggest moving your lip and eye pencils to a cool, dry place instead. Warmth will make pencils melt and break every time you sharpen them – shortening their lifespan. Try keeping your pencils in the refrigerator to ensure a strong tip every time you sharpen them. Not only will they last longer, but you’ll get to perfect your cat eye with one smooth swoop.

HEAT UP YOUR MASCARA
Can you imagine your life without mascara? But of all your make-up, mascara is one of the products that dry up the quickest. Luckily, we know that hot water loosens the dried-up mascara inside the tube. If you think you’ve reached your last application, put your mascara tube in a cup of hot water for two minutes. This trick will give you at least one more week of popping eyes before you absolutely must run to the store and replace it. You’re welcome!
ADD MOISTURISER TO YOUR FOUNDATION
Lengthen the life of your foundation by adding your facial moisturiser to the last bit. We all know how expensive a good foundation is, and stretching that last bit is a matter of life or death. Pour some moisturiser into your glass foundation bottle and shake it well to turn your foundation into more of a tinted moisturiser. You still get coverage, and your face will look beautifully hydrated.
WASH YOUR MAKE-UP BRUSHES REGULARLY
If you take good care of your brushes, they could last years. The leftover make-up product on your brushes can easily spoil your brushes, not to mention the build-up of bacteria that can cause havoc to your skin. So, follow these steps to prolong your babies’ lives: wash with baby shampoo and condition them with olive oil, then rinse thoroughly and place the brushes on a paper towel to dry.

MELT YOUR BROKEN LIPSTICK
Did your favourite lipstick get smooshed? No need to go into a frenzy and throw your lipstick away! Use a lighter to heat up the ends of the two broken pieces. Once warm, press the two pieces together and smooth over the crack with your fingers before it hardens again. Voila – (almost) as good as new!
