4 TIPS FOR A SMOOTH BUS RIDE TO YOUR HOLIDAY DESTINATION

It’s that time of the year again when most South Africans are preparing to embark on long bus rides to spend the holidays with their loved ones. Here are a few tips and tricks to survive those long hours on the bus.

1. WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHES
Ladies, leave those heels at home. Wearing comfortable clothes makes it easier to relax and sleep during those long rides. And don’t forget blankets because sometimes the bus can be extremely cold, especially at night. So pack an extra jersey and a blanket to keep warm and toasty.

@theassacisse You can look comfortable and stylish at the same time when you travel. Here are a few tips for traveling in comfort and style. GO FOR COMFORTABLE SHOES When I think about long lines, security checks, pushing carry-ons, dealing with customs, or running after my kids, the last thing on my mind is a pair of heels at the airport. Most international airports are like small cities, and walking from one end to the other is challenging. Flats, sneakers, and slip-ons are easy to remove at airport security and make your walk feel like a breeze. THE RIGHT FABRIC MATTERS Opt for breathable fabrics and/ or wrinkle-free fabric. With that being said even though linen is not wrinkled-free, I like to wear that during summer travel. My go-to pieces to wear to the airport during winter are sweat sets and leggings. -AN EXTRA LAYER IS A MUST Depending on where you are traveling, it's always a good idea to have extra layers. Planes and airports can be cold, so wear layers that can be easily removed or added when needed. - FINISH THE LOOK WITH THE RIGHT ACCESSORIES Get yourself an excellent travel bag, one you can easily open and close. I love my Longchamp Pliage tote, especially when I travel with the kids. It's one of the best travel bags on the market. It's simple and very solid. I've owned mine for years now, and it's still going strong. You can throw everything in there. When I travel by myself, I opt for a crossbody bag. Let me know what you like to wear to the airport in the comment. 2. PACK (AND CHARGE) YOUR ENTERTAINMENT
Always remember to charge your electronics the night before so you can have everything ready to go. Some buses even have Wi-Fi now, so you can bring your computer! Research the kind of bus you’re taking and find out about the Wi-Fi situation. No Wi-Fi? Download episodes of your favourite series and books to have alternative entertainment to occupy you when you don’t feel like watching the movie showing on the bus, or to avoid never-ending small talk with your seat neighbour/s.

3. STRETCH WHENEVER YOU CAN
Take advantage of the rest stops. Always get off and stretch or walk around to encourage healthy blood circulation. But remember to get back on the bus on time! These days buses are very strict with time. Check with the conductor when you need to be back and seated and plan your time outside well to avoid being left behind.

4. BRING YOUR OWN SNACKS
With each rest stop, we are tempted with delicious takeaways, sweets and chocolate that seem irresistibly enticing after so many hours on the road. Try to avoid these temptations: indulging in those snacks can easily result in your trip turning out to be much more expensive than planned. Pack your own snacks – but avoid any smelly food for this trip.
