Life with a baby can seem like an endless cycle of diaper changes, bottles and sheer exhaustion. Leaving room for anything else is challenging, to say the least. Try to take a night off and try one of these date-night ideas to rekindle the romance and have some fun with your just-as-tired partner.
ENJOY A COOKING CLASS
Chances are you probably have not had time to cook a proper meal in ages. A cooking class is a perfect way to get your hands dirty in the kitchen and expand your culinary skills as a couple. The best part? You get rewarded with a yummy meal in a romantic setting – sealed with a (chef’s) kiss. Romance, delicious food and new cooking skills – sounds like a pearfect date!
TAKE A HIKE TOGETHER
If fitness and the great outdoors are your partner’s love languages, hiking is the perfect way to spend a post-baby date together. Leave your little one with the babysitter, throw on a pair of hiking shoes, grab your backpack and set off to your nearest mountain. The extra endorphins and the sound of chirping birds (instead of a crying baby) will set the mood for a fantastic day. Pack a picnic and find a nice spot with amazing views. You’ll feel refreshed and energised – and a couple of hours alone with your significant other will make all the difference.

INDOOR DATE NIGHT
Don’t fret if you made plans and the sitter cancels at the last minute. You can still enjoy a perfect romantic evening at home. The real fun begins after you put your baby down in the evening. Instead of going to the cinema, bring the movie to you. Prepare some snacks and drinks, make yourself cosy on the couch and stream a movie you’ve wanted to watch together for months. Your date indoors can be just as romantic as going out.
TAKE A DAY OFF TOGETHER
When was the last time you spent an entire day alone with your significant other? If at all possible, take a day off from work together. With your little ones in day care, an afternoon dedicated to each other will do wonders for your relationship. Go to the movies, get a massage together or go for a walk on the beach. Whatever you decide to do, quality time will strengthen your bond. And at the end of the day, you can go back to ooh-ing and aah-ing about your little one.
GAME NIGHT WITH FRIENDS
Can you remember the last time you saw other adults? The struggle to meet with friends you haven’t seen in yonks is real. At this point, the thought of a conversation without the words ‘bottle’, ‘sleep cycle’ and ‘formula’ seems enticing enough. Make a date with your favourite couple, dress up and go for a nice dinner. Broadening your social horizon and hanging out with your partner and other friends is a win-win. Great food, laughter and good conversation will be just what you need after being wrapped up in your little cocoon with your partner and the little one for months.
