We naturally crave hearty, carb-heavy meals and the chillier mornings make it that much harder to maintain a ‘5am-club’ kind of routine. However, healthy habits are made when we keep at them, which is why exercise should be a priority no matter the time of year. Considering that, here are seven excuses that might be preventing you from reaching your fitness goals.
You don't have enough time in the day
This is probably the most common excuse for not exercising, but if you really broke down your day and calculated how much time you spend doomscrolling on Instagram or watching Netflix, you realise how much time you DO have, and that it could be spent more efficiently. Often, we put pressure on ourselves to out-do everyone and end up creating unrealistic goals. The key to forming a habit is to make small and easily achievable goals.

You're always too tired

Maybe it's limiting screen time before bed so you can fall asleep easier or taking a nap during your lunch break on your work-from-home days. Focus on improving your habits and the rest will follow.
You think it's boring
There are scored of ways to move your body. Instead of thinking about exercise as something you HAVE to do, consider it as something you WANT to do. If you love dancing, join a Zumba class! You could also go dancing or take up an exciting sport. You'll get the same rush of endorphins and get fit in the process.
You don't have any motivation to do it
People who procrastinate aren’t necessarily lazy, but they feel the task at hand is completely overwhelming. If 30 minutes is all you can allocate to exercising, it's better than doing nothing at all. You'll also start to get a kick out of finishing any workout or regimen.
Your kids take up your time
Most parents are so caught up in caring for their kids that they forget to focus on themselves. If you are struggling to carve out time to exercise alone, combine playing with your kids and activities that will get your body moving, such as frisbee, swimming, or taking a walk in the park.
You think it's too expensive
Gym is not the only place you can exercise. In fact, exercise costs nothing. There are many forms of exercise that don't require equipment, like running, yoga and high-intensity training. Many neighbourhood parks have been kitted with outdoor gym equipment, so take advantage of this on your next visit to the park.
You feel intimidated by fit people
No one is born being fit and toned. The people you see who make fitness look easy all had to start at the bottom just like you. They look the way they do because of their dedication to improving themselves. Look to them as inspiration!
